Women In Wine: Chelsie Petras (Chel Loves Wine)

(Intervista in Inglese)

Hi Chel,

How did you get started in the wine industry?

I’m not necessarily in the wine industry but I do occupy a special part of it, the writer/influencer section. A little over two years ago I was working just my 9-5 job at a bank. I needed a project that was creative and inspiring to me so I figured I’d start up a wine blog. I love wine and i love to write so I figured it would be a perfect mix. Why did I pick wine? Wine has always been something I loved but something I’ve also been wildly intimidated of. I didn’t want people who also loved wine to not explore it because they were scared of it. t now have my WSET 2 and work with countless people in the wine world. It’s the best industry.

What made you want to start your Instagram account?

My instagram account just started up when my blog chelloveswine.com did. They have grown together over the last two years and I really love the community of women (and men) that I get to engage with daily on my account. Instagram can be such a fun space and I really learn so much from other wine lovers. The thing I love most and why I really focus most of my energy on my Instagram account is because I love meeting and talking to people like me who didn’t know anything about wine but really enjoy it. Then the stumble across my account and learn something new and it triggers them to go and learn more about wine. Wine is the scariest liquid to some people but it’s one that’s brought me so much joy and memories that I think everyone should be able to enjoy wine without being scared of not knowing anything.

What advice do you have for women getting into wine?

I would say not to be scared. Jump right in. I knew nothing about wine when I started besides the fact that I liked wine and that there were white grapes and black grapes. The wine world is also so big, it’s best to know what part of the industry you want to get into. I knew I never wanted to become a sommelier. So I took my WSET instead of my Certified Sommelier Exam. I knew I didn’t want to work in sales. So I chose to enter the industry as a writer and an influencer. From there I never let not knowing something hold me back from going to an event or on a trip or writing an article.

What or who inspires you right now?

So many people do. The other women I meet on a daily basis, other instagram accounts I follow, even my family and friends. I really love talking to women in my “Women in Wine” series. I’ve interviewed almost 20 women for this series and each one has lead me to be inspired in ways I’ve never thought possible. Elizabeth Schneider from Wine for Normal People was one of my most memorable interviews. She gave me great insight on breaking into wine, ideas to do with my blog and some guidance on that. She also just gave me some real talk life advice. Her and i share similar thoughts on wine, that we’re here to make it less intimidating for normal people.

What wine are you currently loving right now?

I always love bubbly and rosé. But since it’s getting warmer in NYC now, I like to combine the two! Lucien Albrecht Cremant d’Alsace rosé is my favorite right now.
